Number is up for Eltham stained glass

Eltham has all the right numbers with new stained glass – built to match the exisiting leaded lights in the door and use the same English muffle glass sourced from the team at Kansa Craft The build process is here from central panel and then the outer areas of the half moon:   The existing door is in the same style: Just around the corner is Eltham Palace  and Gardens and is a unique marriage between a medieval and Tudor palace and a 1930s millionaire’s mansion. From the 14th to the 16th century it was an important royal...

Double vandals – new glass required

St Giles Church in Holme has had some unwelcome visitors in the form of vandals who forced entry to the church. As you will see from this the first visit was through the right hand window. Unbelievably just a few days later they destroyed the window next to it when they returned a second time. The damage was extensive but luckily did not affect the cinquefoil headers which were untouched and a pair of new rectangular leaded lights were required, The old glass was salvaged and replaced in the same position during the build The new glass in...

New Malden new Stained Glass

Working for the first time New Malden I have been creating new Stained Glass to exactly match that which featured in the house originally Here was where I started – the original door lost and the need to rebuild the sidelight and restore the top light Dukes Avenue has a good number of houses which have retained their glass and next door were king enough to allow a rubbing to be made of their door glass to get the scale and layout correct Glass types and colours were selected and approved to recreate as before where the coloured glass...

Stained Glass in Saffron Walden

The Cross Keys needed stained glass repairs in Saffron Walden A challenging repair because I did not want to change the whole leaded light as the top portion was entirely sound. The bottom had been pushed out by diners in the restaurant leaning on the glass – the above picture has the bottom two rows of glass quarries inserted into the existing window. The Cross Keys has recently been crownd the overall winner of the Channel 4 programme Four in a Bed The show involves four B&B owners taking turns staying at each other’s hotels,...

Bespoke stained glass for Reigate

Recently we have created new bespoke stained glass for a house in Reigate incorporating features for the family and in particular the children. Design and colour choice was all driven by the customer who was involved throughout the process The top light has a rose and a Arthurian shield to encompass the children’s names The strong yellow front door is an important element in any Feng Shui and is particularly auspicious for south facing This is our first work in Reigate  and it really shows how the three different light levels work...

Through the round window a hole!

This round door window had the unwelcome attention of a drunken reveller in Great Shelford near Cambridge This was an opportunity to create something very special to turn a disaster in to a triumph This is from the inside to give an idea of colours Another happy customer : ‘Claire is thrilled with the window and keeps showing it to all who...

Leaded light rebuild exposed

Leaded light rebuild exposed

Montague Road in Cambridge has seen several leaded lights come to my workshop Here is the leaded light apart with the central portion still to be stripped Cracked glass needs to be matched and replaced – this is all caused by the distortion of the leaded panel. As the door slams shut the glass and lead have weight which gradually makes the panel creep – the further from the hinge the greater the force applied. I added some sponge draft excluder to the door surround to soften the closing. Client had this to say on completion:...

Tenant’s rebuild delight

Whitehill Road in Cambridge has a happy tenant with a newly rebuilt leaded light in the front door to welcome them. Door lights work hard and this one was on the point of collapse and has now been fully re-leaded with new came ready for the next 100 years The glass is a mix of unusual colours of ‘hammered’ glass type which was very popular for use in Art Deco styles The customer returned home to view the rebuild and commented:-  You did a fantastic job! – Payment done with many thanks. The house is just around the corner...
